New educational material aims to improve diabetes care after the pandemic

0 2 years ago

Entitled ‘Prioritising Diabetes Care in the COVID Pandemic’, the poster has been created after diabetes checks were “put on the backburner” during the height of the pandemic.

The poster covers the importance of routine diabetes checks, which people should be prioritised, and key links for low-risk individuals looking to self-manage their condition.

In addition, available support and resources for GP practice staff can also be accessed via the new informative poster.

Dr Naresh Kanumilli, Community Diabetes Consultant at the Manchester University Foundation Trust and lead author, said: “Over the last 18 months COVID-19 has dominated the NHS and diabetes care was very much put on the backburner.

“As we emerge from the pandemic, this leaflet will guide healthcare professionals on how to improve diabetes care.

“This poster highlights the importance of implementing continuous support for the most vulnerable people with diabetes and we are hoping it will help healthcare professionals to be proactive as we need to tackle this issue now.”
