Before letting your daughter play soccer, read this if you care about their long-term health.

As reported in Neurotrauma Reports article: Relation between Isometric Neck Strength and White Matter Organization in Collegiate Athletes:

Poor ISOMETRIC neck strength is linked to higher rates of structural brain damage in female athletes.

“We assessed the relation between neck strength and White Matter Organization in collegiate athletes with high and low exposure to Repetitive Head Injury. We found that soccer players with stronger necks had more intact White Matter Organization, suggesting that neck strength may have a role in reducing the White Matter alterations associated with Repetitive Head Injury. Therefore, neck strength is a promising target for further investigation as a modifiable factor to reduce the risk of brain trauma and associated cognitive effects in athletes with high exposure to Repetitive Head Injury.”

(I HATE WHEN THEY DON’T USE THE WORD ISOMETRIC IN FRONT OF NECK STRENGTH IN THE CONCLUSION)

What is white matter, and why is it important?

So how can you make soccer safer?

If you want to help build your isometric neck (and rest of body) strength, you should pick up an Isophit M.S.K. It makes isometric strength training accessible for everyone.
