How you train your athletes matters. Did you know that increases in muscle hypertrophy do not always lead to increased isometric muscle strength?

This study by Sale et al. showed that performing 57 dynamic leg workouts over 19 weeks did not improve isometric strength in the training subjects. During the intervention, the training subjects increased their 1RM Leg Strength by 29% and the cross-sectional area of their thigh by 11%. These improvements occurred without an increase in isometric strength.

Isometric muscle strength measures predict future injury risk and performance capabilities in athletes.
